ZooLights at Lincoln Park Zoo
This beloved after-dark light spectacular returns with millions of LEDs across the zoo grounds from Nov. 21 through Jan. 4, 2026. Tickets are required but certain Monday nights are free with registration. Plan for bundled up fun with festive music and special nights - and make sure to check their website before you visit, as they are closed some holidays and most Tuesdays.
Lightscape at Chicago Botanic Garden
Another stunning outdoor light journey (tickets required) just north of the city. They operate from Nov. 14 through Jan. 4, 2026 - with select nights featuring extra family activities like meeting Santa or musical evenings.

Millennium Park Ice Skating
The iconic McCormick Tribune Ice Rink opens mid-November and keeps going until February 1. Skate under the skyline with Cloud Gate (aka The Bean) nearby. You are free to skate as late as 10:30pm depending on the day you visit, which add to the magic with stars above you. Reservations and rentals available on site.
Maggie Daley Park Skating Ribbon
This unique quarter-mile ice ribbon lets you glide along a winding course with city views and a lively atmosphere. Reservations are released on a rolling basis, with various time slots available. Visit the website to reserve yours! Bring your own skates or rent them.

The Nutcracker – Joffrey Ballet
Chicago’s premier holiday ballet runs in early to late December at the Lyric Opera House. It’s a seasonal staple that draws both locals and visitors alike. Tickets are limited, and the available dates are dwindling fast - make sure to reserve your tickets soon
A Christmas Carol – Goodman Theatre
Goodman Theatre’s beloved production of A Christmas Carol returns through December 31. From Nov 20–Dec 28, this season features the stunning projection of The Joffrey Ballet’s The Nutcracker. Figures from the beloved ballet dance across the massive façade in a modern, larger-than-life adaptation of the Lyric Opera House production. Since debuting in 2020, it’s become a must-see Chicago holiday tradition.
