Bucktown Mansion With Political Past Sells for $1.175 Million

Recently featured in the Chicago Tribune was the sale of a five-bedroom mansion in Bucktown, built and formerly owned by U.S. Rep. Luis Gutierrez, for $1.175 million. Listing agent Ivona Kutermankiewicz told the Tribune the seller had purchased the brick mansion in 2010 for $924,000, “which was at the bottom of the market.” The new owners are reportedly a family “that lives just around the corner.”

According to the Tribune, back in 1999 Gutierrez enlisted homebuilders Pappageorge Haymes Partners to build the trophy home on a corner lot in Bucktown. The longtime congressman, who has represented Illinois 4^th District since 1993, lived there until selling it in 2001 for $975,000.

This Bucktown mansion comes with 4 1⁄2 baths, hardwood floors, an attached two-car garage and rooftop deck above the garage. The living room has a fireplace with built-ins, the chef’s kitchen features 42-inch shaker cabinets and an island, and the entire residence is outfitted with a smart home system. There is also a dining room, family room adjacent the kitchen and dramatic center staircase.

Those stairs lead to perhaps the coolest part of this Bucktown mansion: the penthouse floor. It features two rooftop decks and large windows for which to enjoy city- and tree-top views.

“It really is a great property, on the corner, in a very desirable location,” said Kutermankiewicz. “It has great outdoor spaces and a very unique layout, with a bi-level layout in the living room.”

Agent Kutermankiewicz, who also specializes in commercial real estate throughout the Chicago area, is affiliated with brokerage Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices KoenigRubloff.
