Welcome to Roscoe Village

Roscoe Village takes its name from Roscoe Street, which runs east to west through the center of the neighborhood. It was established by John Lewis Cochran in the 1830’s along with the nearby neighborhoods of Avondale and Edgewater. Bordered by Addison Street to the north, Belmont Avenue to the south, Ravenswood Avenue to the east, and the Chicago River to the west, this beautiful community is known for its quiet, tree-lined streets flanked by brand new single-family homes, stately two- and three-flats, and an occasional vintage courtyard apartment building.

Roscoe Village is considered by many one of the most ideal North Side communities to raise a family. It has some of the best public and private schools in the city, including Aubudon, Bell and Hamilton Elementary Schools, which draw from the surrounding neighborhoods, and Lane Tech, one of the largest public high schools in the city. The area has plenty of parks; Fellger Park, at Belmont and Damen, is a happening spot for toddlers.

Roscoe Village also has its share of great shopping. Charming boutiques such as Crush On Roscoe offer cutting edge clothing for women and men alike. Little Threads, Twinkle Twinkle Little One and Bellybum Boutique have everything you need to fill out a baby shower registry. Roscoe Village Bikes can get you ready to hit the Lakefront Bike Path or simply enjoy many of the neighborhood’s bike-friendly side streets. A walk down Roscoe Street, Belmont Avenue or Addison Street can turn an afternoon into an enjoyable window-shopping experience.

Roscoe Village boasts numerous world-class restaurants that offer a wide range of culinary experiences. Fashionable eateries such as Hot Woks Cool Sushi, Thai Linda, Turquoise Café and Kitsch’n on Roscoe attract visitors from all over the north side.

If you want to catch a Cubs game without dealing with the crowds nearer to Wrigleyville, O’Donovan’s is just the place for you. This bar is fully stocked with draft beers as well as board games, making it an ideal spot for a fun night with friends. Riverview Tavern located at the corner of Damen and Roscoe, is where Charlie Chaplin once fell in love with the neighborhood’s charm and decided to shoot a movie there. Martyr’s is a bar that hosts local music acts and literary events such as NPR’s The Moth. Beat Kitchen shows local and nationally touring acts in an intimate environment. If you are looking for something a little more upscale, Volo Restaurant and Wine Bar will be just your speed.

The neighborhood has plenty of public transit for quick commutes downtown or to the northern suburbs. The CTA can be accessed on the elevated Brown Line, which has stops at Addison/Ravenswood and Paulina/Roscoe, as well as via bus lines that run along major streets. The Milwaukee North Metra Line runs along Ravenswood Avenue, and has a stop at Lawrence/Ravenswood, a little over a mile north of the neighborhood.
